Walter S. Luse

Walter Luse was appointed to the West Liberty Library Board of Trustees in 1900 after the citizens voted to have a free public library. He served as secretary of the Board during his tenure.[1] He resigned from the Board in early February,1904.[2] Following his resignation, he was a candidate for office in city government and in March,1904 he was elected the city treasurer.[3]

Walter S. Luse was born near West Liberty May 26, 1861, the son of Clark and Eleanor Luse. His father was a grocer.[4] He married Bertha Harris on Oct. 22, 1884.[5] He was a cashier at People’s State Bank in West Liberty until 1910 and then a vice president at Iowa State Bank. While living in West Liberty he was a member and past master of Mt. Calvary Lodge.[6] In 1918 he and his wife moved to White Plains, NY living there for three years before locating in Cleveland, OH where he held a position with the Standard Trust Company.[7] He died of a sudden heart attack June 21, 1930. He was survived by his widow, a daughter, Mildred Dalgety and three grandchildren. Burial was at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty.[8]
