Miss Perry, Maud

Maud Perrry took Grace Shellenberger’s place as Humboldt Librarian. She served from the spring of 1911 until early in 1912. Maud Perry was born in Sarcoxie, Missouri, in 1875. Her parents moved to Humboldt when she was five years old. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1893. She taught in rural schools for a number of years and then taught in the Humboldt Public Schools where she was well-liked. After retiring from teaching in 1911, she became the librarian at the Humboldt Carnegie Free Public Library from Septemeber 1911 to early 1912.

She became interested in the chiropractic method of curing disease and studied at the Palmer School of Chiropractitry, from which she recieved a certificate in 1912.

Maud lived in Humboldt and took great pride in our city and its progress. In the days of her teaching she was interested in her subject material as well as her pupils and endeavored to train them to be good citizens. She had a keen interest in current history and world events, particularly in world government and peace through the United Nations. She wanted all people to have the opportunity to progress, and was especially interested in helping young people.

Maud became ill and spent some time in the hospital and nursing home. She died on April 27, 1952. Services were conducted by the Rev. Robert Watson of the Congregational Church. She is buried in the family plot in Union Cemetery.
