Dr. Walter M. Long
Dr. Walter M. Long was appointed by Mayor McIntosh to the West Liberty Library Board of Trustees in July 1902.[1] He served on the executive committee. He was reappointed for another term but left the Board in 1908 when he sold his dental practice and prepared to move from the city.[2]
Walter M. Long was the son of James and Maria Mears Long, born Dec. 9,1875 in Rock Island, IL. He was a graduate of the Rock Island High School and the Chicago College of Dental Surgery in 1899.[3] He first practiced in Clinton a short while, then moved to West Liberty. He married Grace Whitson of Clinton in 1901.[4] The couple moved to Boulder, CO in 1908 where Dr. Long practiced dentistry until 1924. He then opened a practice at Moline, IL.[5] He passed away from a sudden heart attack on July 9, 1934. The couple had no children. He was survived by his wife, two sisters and a nephew.[6] Burial was at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island.[7]
