Dr. Walter M. Long
Dr. Walter M. Long was appointed by Mayor McIntosh to the West Liberty Library Board of Trustees in July 1902. He served on the executive committee. He was reappointed for another term but left the Board in 1908 when he sold his dental practice and prepared to move from the city.
Walter M. Long was the son of James and Maria Mears Long, born Dec. 9,1875 in Rock Island, IL. He was a graduate of the Rock Island High School and the Chicago College of Dental Surgery in 1899. He first practiced in Clinton a short while, then moved to West Liberty. He married Grace Whitson of Clinton in 1901. The couple moved to Boulder, CO in 1908 where Dr. Long practiced dentistry until 1924. He then opened a practice at Moline, IL. He passed away from a sudden heart attack on July 9, 1934. The couple had no children. He was survived by his wife, two sisters and a nephew. Burial was at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island.
