Alden is a town in Hardin County,which was established on January 15, 1851. The county was named for Colonel John J. Hardin of Illinois, who had fought in the Black Hawk War, and had been killed in the Mexican War. Eldora is the county seat of Hardin County. In Hardin County, Alden, Eldora, and Iowa Falls all received Carnegie grants.
